Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Revealed, Gets A Mild Hybrid System Like The Fortuner
Toyota has revealed the Land Cruiser Prado with a Mild Hybrid system in international markets. Pairing the mild hybrid system with the Prado’s diesel engine helps increase fuel efficiency and deliver optimum performance. Toyota has also mentioned that the MHEV system will be incorporated into other Toyota products.
Powertrain Combination
The Fortuner’s 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine powers the Toyota Land Cruiser. It produces 204 HP and 500 NM of torque. The engine pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The engine mates with a 7.6 Kg hybrid battery, which comprises a 48V 4.3Ah lithium-ion battery and an AC-DC converter. These components work together to provide an additional 16 HP and 65 NM of torque. The small battery is charged under engine braking.
Mild Hybrid System
A hybrid system can limit the SUV’s capabilities, especially off-road. However, the brand has assured that this is not the case with the Land Cruiser Prado. Its impressive 700mm water wading capacity remains undeterred by the system.
The operating status of the battery is showcased in the driver’s display, showing CHG (energy regeneration), ECO or PWR (providing assist in both on-road and off-road scenarios).
It is important to remember that the mild hybrid system was also added to the Toyota Fortuner. Toyota is expected to bring the Land Cruiser Prado to India by the end of the year. We expect Toyota to slot the Land Cruiser Prado LC250 below the Land Cruiser LC300.
However, the brand hasn’t shared the timeline of the SUV’s launch.
