Govt-run lender flags irrigation debt crisis: Telangana defaults on loans, faces NPA threat; must repay Rs 1.4k crore in 2 days

The Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) has cautioned the Telangana government about potential NPA declarations for two loan accounts linked to irrigation projects, including Kaleshwaram, if Rs 1,393 crore in dues remain unpaid. REC’s finance director, Jatin Kumar Nayak, highlighted the negative impact on the state’s financial rating.
