Golden Arch Highway Set to Reshape Nagpur’s Regional Connectivity

In a major infrastructural leap, the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) has proposed the ‘Golden Arch’ highway — a third ring road envisioned to significantly enhance traffic circulation and regional integration around Nagpur.

Planned as a circular outer corridor beyond the existing Outer Ring Road, the Golden Arch aims to link major national highways — NH-53, NH-44, NH-47, and NH-347 — and act as a strategic bypass for heavy logistics traffic. This move is expected to decongest the city’s core while bolstering Nagpur’s role as a central logistic hub.

The highway’s alignment will connect key industrial and economic pockets such as MIHAN and Butibori MIDC, while also integrating the upcoming Central Commercial District (CCD) at Hingna. A major intersection with the Samruddhi Mahamarg is also being planned, with options for a flyover or underpass under review.

In preparation, NMRDA commissioned a comprehensive topographical survey through a Delhi-based firm, assessing elevation, land alignment, and natural features. The ₹6 lakh study will guide the optimal route planning.

The project will follow a 50:50 funding model, with the state government expected to handle land acquisition costs. Implementation of Clause 37 of the MRTP Act, crucial for initiating land-use change, is in the pipeline. Land acquisition surveys are underway, and initial documents have been submitted for approval.

Once cleared, the Golden Arch is poised to ease traffic, streamline freight movement, and spur both industrial and residential development across Nagpur’s periphery — laying the groundwork for the city’s future growth.
